Flashlight Preparation is Critical for End of Daylight Savings Time
In less than a week, Daylight Savings Time will officially end, and as the Fall progresses, it will begin getting darker earlier and earlier. On Sunday, November 6, most people will have to set their clocks back one hour as of 2 am.
And in anticipation of it, one expert says it’s time for people to prepare their flashlights for the switch. “Because it will get dark earlier, people should prepare their flashlights for the change,” says a spokesman of MJH Innovations, which sells powerful handheld flashlights. “For example, they’ll still need to walk their dogs, take walks around the neighborhood, or be prepared for those winter storms that knock out power. And if they have a flashlight that’s in working order, it will make those times go easier.”
Experts say the best way to ensure that flashlights are in working order is to replace the batteries with fresh ones, and then test the light.
“This is an important step to take,” says the spokesman, “because the National Safety Council tells us that pedestrians are almost three times more likely to be hit and killed by automobiles in the days right after daylight savings time. But if people walk with a flashlight, it will greatly reduce the risk.” Experts also agree that people should stay aware of their surroundings as they're out at night at shopping malls, grocery stores, and other places. "I don't think It's a bad idea to carry a handheld flashlight with you at all times," says the spokesman.
