by Marta Jordan Writer
We can all agree that pasta is delicious. It can be both a great midweek meal and enjoyed as a fine dining experience. But how many times have you been left with a half-finished jar of pasta sauce in your fridge and little idea what to do with it?

Here’s a handy tip — despite what the name might suggest, there are many different kinds of recipes that you can use basil pasta sauce with. Continue reading to discover five unique ways that you can use this great tasting product.

As a dip
When you think about it, salsa is really just another type of sauce — so why not use that leftover pasta sauce to serve with your favourite corn chips?

It’s not just corn chips you can serve with pasta sauce. Mozzarella sticks are an equally good choice and the cheesy, gooey goodness will pair perfect with the fresh, vibrant taste of basil pasta sauce.

In soup
Minestrone soup is a very popular Italian staple that can only be enhanced through the addition of pasta sauce. If you’re looking for a way to get some extra veggies into your diet and are keen to keep healthy and warm through the winter months, minestrone is a great option.

Of course, you can also add pasta sauce to your other favourite soup flavours, including tomato, marinara, and onion.

As pizza sauce
Pizza and pasta go hand in hand, which means that leftover pasta sauce is the perfect addition to your next homemade pizza night.

Topped with your favourite selection of veggies and meat, pasta sauce is nutrient rich, which means you can feel good about tucking into that extra slice!

With parmigiana
A parmigiana has four staple ingredients — chicken, ham, cheese, and now, basil pasta sauce.

Parmiagianas might be a pub favourite but it is a remarkably easy dish to make yourself at home. It’s also a great way to use up that leftover pasta sauce, simply slather your slice of chicken with it and enjoy digging into that chicken-y, cheese-y goodness!

To top meatloaf
Meatloaf might seem like a distinctly American dish but its origins actually go all the way back to Europe (Rome, to be precise) in the 5th century. A combination of ground beef, onion, bread crumbs, and spices, your finished meatloaf can be topped with a healthy dose of basil pasta sauce to give it an extra kick of flavour.

So there you have it! Five unique ways to use up that leftover pasta sauce. Before you get too ahead of yourself, make sure you check the expiry date of your product and know how long you need to use the sauce after opening the jar — it’s usually a couple of days, at least. And in order to increase the nutritional content of your meals, opt for a pasta sauce product that is full of whole ingredients, and not too much salt or preservatives.
