Fistula may develop in any part of the body. These are mainly classified in main three types – blind, complete and incomplete. Blind fistula is open at one end, complete fistula is open at both the ends, internally and externally and incomplete fistula has only one external opening. This is a problem that occurs in the area where there is a very poor medical care.

Anal fistula or fistula in ano is a painful condition, originates from the anal glands, located between the two layers of the anal sphincters and which drain into the anal canal. An abscess can form that eventually point to the skin surface if the outlet of these glands become blocked which is known as fistula. These fistulae can be very painful and irritated because of the pus drain. Anal fistula may connect body cavities such as the vagina and the rectum also may connect the cavity to the surface of the skin.

There may be many causes of anal fistula. It may be due to Infection in an anal gland which spreads to the skin, after surgery to drain an anal abscess, Physical injury, severe medications for a long time, life style habits etc.

Symptoms present are Constipation or pain when passing stools, blood or pus discharge, irritation of the skin around the anus with swelling and redness, throbbing pain and sometimes fever also.

Anal Fistula Ayurvedic Treatment

Fistula herbal cure is considered to be very effective and safest way to treat the condition, because in many cases surgery is only a temporary solution. In an anal fistula (Bhagandar in ayurveda), treatment through surgery can still cause the fistula to recur after some time. When you eat, all useful nutrients and fluids are digested and absorbed, and waste material goes to the rectum for removal, leaving from the anus. However, the tissue of the anal passage is very fragile and any irritation can damage it. Problem starts with a small fissure in the tissue, which is soon infected and this creates a pocket of infection called an abscess. A fistula is created when the infected material inside the abscess moves towards the surface. In almost all cases, this channel will open on the surface near the anus. However a fistula may lead to another internal organ or go back into the intestines. A specialized instrument called an anoscope is used to study the lower rectum to identify the starting abscess.

Kasharsutra or medicated thread treatment is considered to be very effective way to treat fistula in ano naturally. It is a procedure of passing a medicated thread through the fistula at regular intervals. This method of anal fistula ayurvedic treatment is described by the famous Indian surgeon Sushruta in his sushruta samhita (600 BC). Thread is coated with extracts of herbs snuhi, apmarg and haridra that help in curing the fistula naturally.

Haridra (Curcuma longa) – It is commonly known as curcumin that is a pure ayurvedic medicine or herb used in various health ailments. It also removes extra fats and reduces cholesterol. Also acts as central nervous system stimulant.

Amalaki (Emblica officinalis) – Commonly called as Indian gooseberry. Amla is a Hindi name. It is a natural, rich source of vitamin C, A strong antioxidant which is proven as one of the best anti aging and strongest rejuvenating herb in Indian medicine. It is known to be very good laxative. Amla is a fruit with very high medicinal value.

Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) – Commonly used herb in ayurveda for relieving constipation. Vara churna or triphala churna is the pure herbal formulation made from the combination of amalaki, haritaki and babhitaki. It acts very effevtively on the stomach. Haritaki helps to strengthen the digestive system and improves its functions. It clears the blockage in the stomach which occurs due to bowel and gas.

Babhitaki (Terminalia bellerica) – A useful herb used to remove extra fat and wastes from the body. It is well known rejuvenating and laxative herb explained in ayurveda. It relieves constipation, improves immunity and controls high blood pressure and cholesterol.

Nirgundi (Vitex nirgundo) – It is one among the best ayurvedic medicines for the fistula in ano. Nirgundi helps to reduce the swelling or inflammation. Nirgundi is one of the anti-inflammatory herbs and it is rich in vitamin C. it enhances whole immunity system and prevents from various ailments. Nirgundi is considered to be very effective analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial which plays very important role in fistula herbal cure and it is a drug of choice in conditions like anal fistula, tonsillitis, arthritis, bronchitis, wounds etc.
