Being tattooed with a Fire Flames Tattoo can mean many different things, and these tattoos can have a captivating look with the many different colors of the flames ranging from orange and yellow to red, green and blue. In many places fire takes on a religious meaning partly because of the way the smoke is perceived as leading up to Heaven.

Fire is considered essential to life. Being one of the four elements of alchemy, and one of the five Chinese elements, fire is a symbol of the passionate heart and blazing desires. It is also one of the five sacred elements in Hinduism. Even on the television show Survivor, they refer to fire and flame as life. When someone’s flame is snuffed, their time on the show is done. Fire flames tattoos would mean the bearer is a survivor, as he or she still possesses the necessary element of fire – giving the tattooed flames an even greater meaning as they are indeed more eternal than the life of the person who wears them.

Fire also makes a showing in Mythology. In Roman Mythology, Vulcan is the god of fire. In Greek Mythology, Prometheus was honored by men and cursed by gods for stealing fire from the gods and giving it to men. In Judaism, flaming candles introduce holidays and Shabbat. Fire is also used to honor the dead. The Eternal Flame was a fire that was kept in the temple, and never intended to go out. In Christianity, fire is used both in Heaven and in Hell.

Yet more often than not, fire and flames, especially on a tattoo, mean evilness or even sexual desire. Often these tattoos incorporate the meanings and symbols of other tattoos such as the Devil or the Grim Reaper. However, where fire and flames were once considered very masculine tattoos, it has now become more fashionable for women to have tattoos of blazing fire and flames.
