Fire Department Storz Connection

The major difference between this and other fire department connections is that they have no threads. Rather hooks and flanges are used to attach the hose to the connection. Whereas the hoses with threaded couplings take way more turns than this one. The second basic benefit of using this connection is that they have universal fittings, which implies that if the 2 mating connections are of the same dimension, they will fit together. On the other hand, when two and a half inch threaded couplings differ in dimensions it can be precarious when large fire occurs. For instance, if Manhattan uses a two and half inch hose thread, and a big fire happens they would not be able to depend on the neighboring municipalities for help as those hoses would not be the same as the Manhattan connections. This connection soon became very popular al across Europe. But it has more than hundred years and America is struggling to use this connection. Mostly all the fire departments have to use exclusive adapters to connect the huge diameter hoses. However US hydrant manufacturers are now providing the storz coupling as the original equipment.
