Overview

Presentation of findings and results is an important element in research/dissertation papers writing. It is the tool to communicate the relevant information or acquired knowledge to the target audience. How you present your results has a major impact on the credibility of your research. This is because the presentation of findings and results is an illustration of how the research results were arrived at. To ensure that the right approach in presentation is adopted demands the consideration of some factors, for example:

a) Type of data being presented: Different data types may demand different approaches in findings and results presentation.

b) Target audience: If the target audience may include the general public, presentation may require a quite simpler approach.

Key Elements in Findings and Results Presentation

A good findings and results presentation is defined by some elements. Some of such elements include:

a) Findings and results presentation should be in such a manner that data used effectively supports the conclusions arrived at. The evidence derived from the data presented should be well illustrated in the presentation.

b) The findings and results must be related to the conceptual framework. The presentation should illustrate a relationship between the conceptual framework and the findings and results.

c) The findings and results presentation should illustrate adequate evidence to back the claims in the research results. It should be adequate enough to address any counter-evidence that may arise.

d) The presentation of the findings and results should be a direct answer to the research problem. In this, the presentation should depict a relationship with the answers to the research questions.

e) The findings and results presentation should provide the use of statistics. The presentation should utilize numbers to help interpret the results and arrive at some conclusions.

Presentation Methods

Modern technology has increased ways of findings and results presentation. The most important factor to consider when using the different methods of presentation is the need to retain a theoretical dimension. Presentation methods include:

a) Text only thesis: these are research presentation methods that rely solely on written evidence. The argument and proof for this written evidence does not require visual or other forms of support.

b) Illustrated thesis: this method includes written evidence as well as visuals or other forms of support in findings and results presentation. Illustrations in this method may include scanned images, photographs, and video or tape-recording.

c) Exhibition and thesis: in this form of presentation, personal experience of the researcher is quite important and is incorporated into the thesis reading.

d) Interactive and multimedia exhibition: this entailed the use of computer-generated evidence in findings and results presentation. It may include scanned images; images generated using computer; and different software.
