Finding the Right Tubs and Showers for Your Remodel

by Adam Perry Content Editor

If you are looking into getting a new bathroom, you already know that you need to choose your selections very carefully. From the new vanity and fixtures to sinks, toilets, tubs, and showers, each item will need to be selected to fit with your bathroom’s design and your budget. That often means making trade-offs, and those trade-offs will require you to rebalance your plan. If you want to find a way to streamline your selection process, you can always start with the most expensive pieces. That’s where you often encounter the most trouble balancing the budget, and if you lock in what you need there, you can always build the rest of your bathroom design around them.

Selecting New Showers and Tubs

When you are ready to pick out the center of your new bathroom, you will need to decide whether you are going to go for a full tub or a stand-up shower. Most tubs will, of course, also have shower options, but not everyone finds they need a tub in their bathroom, and new shower options essentially reimage showers as miniature rooms unto themselves. That makes it worthwhile to consider both when you are remodeling. Once you have settled on a direction, you also need to figure out what features you are looking for.

Does your new shower need to have multiple showerheads? Are you looking for a tub with built-in massage jets? What about tubs and showers designed with easy walk-in access for the disabled? More and more Americans are living in households with at least one disabled member, and providing for the needs of the whole house is essential when you are going to be making a major investment like a remodel.

Mapping Out Your Décor

Once you have settled on your tub and shower choice, you can start looking into the vanities, sinks, and other elements of a remodel that will help you make your space your own. Remember to design with an end goal in mind, whether it’s to open up space, to use color to create a mood, or even something simple like wanting to increase your useful storage space without making the bathroom seem small. No matter what your goals are, the choices you make for vanities, cabinets, toilets, and sinks will play a huge role in the way your tubs and showers look at the end. That’s why so many people like to work with designers to help figure out the best way to incorporate the shower or tub they need into the bathroom they want.
