Finding the Best Plumber for Your New Home
by Kevin Smith AuthorIf you’re building a new home, one contractor you’ll need to
have, besides your builder and electrician, is a plumber who can install all
the home’s plumbing. Your building contractor may have someone they typically work
with, and that’s great. But it’s your home, and if you would prefer a different
plumbing contractor, that is your right. By the same token, your builder may ask
if there’s a particular plumbing contractor you’d like to work with. Do
you know who you’d select? Remember, this is more than just unclogging a drain.
They’re installing every line of plumbing in your entire house.
Start By Narrowing Your Options
Searching for the company that does the best plumbing in
Gainesville, GA, doesn’t have to be rocket science. You can look at
home-related websites like Angie’s List or Home Advisor.com, but you should
also check with the Better Business Bureau in your area to see what people are
saying about whoever you’re considering.
Ask for proof of insurance and licensure. Check with the
licensing agency to see if they’ve ever had their license revoked or suspended,
or had a complaint filed against them by an upset customer.
New plumbing should be warrantied, as should the labor since
the plumbing is, in this case, being installed in a brand-new home. Sometimes
pipes are replaced in older homes, too. So you should always find out how long
the labor is warrantied, as are the materials being installed. Find out if any
portion of the warranty is transferrable should you move. Chances are, if
you’re building a new home, you won’t be moving for a while, but sometimes
things do happen causing people to move unexpectedly, and it would be a nice
selling point if it transferred to the new owner.
Other Considerations When Hiring a
Plumber
You never know when a pipe is going to burst or some other
need for a plumber is going to arise. Those kinds of things rarely occur during
normal business hours. So, it’s important to ask what they charge, if anything,
for overtime on a busy day, or what their rates are on weekends and holidays.
Ask for references and talk to people they’ve done work for
in the past. Ask how they were to deal with: did they finish the work when they
said they would? Did they clean up after themselves and take old piping, and
other materials away, or leave them for the homeowner to deal with?
Make sure the technicians are all trained and certified and
are using state-of-the-art equipment to install and/or address your plumbing
needs. And make sure they look for long-term solutions rather than short-term
fixes.
As you search for the company that does the best
plumbing in Gainesville, GA, be smart and shopper-savvy. It’ll pay off
in the long-run.
