Though it's impossible to say what the real origin of Christmas in July is, there were no major media mentions of the concept before 1933.
Others believe the tradition started in Europe as a way to celebrate Christmas in summer. During the summer months in the Northern Hemisphere, the weather becomes hotter, and many people crave the coolness of winter. The earliest Christmas celebrations in July saw people throwing parties that mimic the actual Christmas festivities in December.
July is often an easier time for family members to reunite if they're scattered across the states. The weather is better for vacations, and it makes long-distance travel less stressful and complicated. So Christmas in July seems like a great time to get in the festive spirit.
