Hair Transplant Options

There are two kinds of hair transplant procedure being used for women.

Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT)

FUT, also known as the strip method, has been along for a while now. A strip of hair follicles is taken from the site (generally the back of the head) and then individual follicular units are dissected. These are then grafted into the recipient area. It leaves a linear scar at the donor site.

The results are completely visible in about a year. A person needs to rest for a few days after this procedure and the recovery generally takes two weeks.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

FUE is the more modern of the two approaches. The hair follicles are punched out from the donor area which does away with the linear strip being cut. A perfect 1mm follicular unit is had with this method and no dissection is required.

The down time associated with FUE is generally one week. No linear scar is left though there are some pinhole scars left which are easily covered by hair.
