Family Friendly Summer Activities

by Shubham Raheja manager

“Mom, I'm bored” does this sound familiar moms? When children are at home over the summer, there's little to do, and therefore boredom is inevitable. The presence of summer means longer days, more sun, outdoor grills and most importantly, family time. However, summertime is lengthy, and around mid-July, the kids are already bored with all the playing.

Remember the good old days when your parents had you visit the community pool nearly every day over summer? By the time it was August you were bored like crazy. Well, if you find yourself going through the same thing with your kids, don't worry we've got you covered. Hence, if you want to minimize the amount of screen time your kids get, here are a few activities you can do as a family.

Get Wet

Whether it's going to the beach, visiting your favorite pool or the lake, water activities can never disappoint. You do not necessarily have to own pool to have fun since the cost of a pool is pretty high. You can apply sunblock on your kids, give them some summer hats and sandals and, hit the beach. Build sand castles, bury them in the sand and play some beach soccer. Remember that sprinkler in your backyard? You can use it to get wet as you and your children run and jump in the water. How cool is that?

Visit The Zoo

Summer is never truly over until you've shown the animals some love. The zoo is the ideal place to go and learn more about your favorite animal. Most of the zoos have junior programs where kids are taught about taking care of the animals, the threats they encounter and their natural habitats. Make sure you look up the zoo before visiting so that you can know what they are offering and thus maximize the fun.

Visit the Library

There is always joy in reading books, especially for kids. Over summer, most libraries will host book clubs and art and craft activities to keep their young minds occupied over summer. It's also a great opportunity for your child to make new friends and create new memories. Therefore, visit your local library, check out what they are offering, and sign up your child.

Visit The Museum

Going to the museum is so much fun not only for kids but also for adults. Your child can see creatures or plants that existed long ago. Most nature and science museums provide the children with exhibits that they can touch, see, or merely interact with. You could also engage in a scavenger hunt where you ask your kids to find a particular artifact and later on reward the winner.

Have A Picnic

Eating outside is always a beautiful idea. You’re surrounded by nature and a calm, relaxing environment. Pack your picnic basket with a few of your favorite items and enjoy the meal under the cool shade with your family. It can be at the park or just in your backyard. Accompany the picnic with a few outdoor games that you and your kids can enjoy.

Learn a New Sport

Through sports, children gain mental and physical health. Summer is the perfect time to learn new sports and try them out. Children like adventures and thus teaching them a new sport will keep them busy for a while. It could be golf, tennis, canoeing, kayaking or white water rafting. All these new games will make your summer more memorable.

Conclusion

Summer is the best time to bond and create new memories with your family. These and many more activities will ensure your family has the best summer ever.
