Factors to Consider While Choosing the Right Phlebotomy Institute

by Pinky Tyagi Blogger & Writter

Phlebotomist Training programs differ, but the basic coursework is the same. This coursework needs to be mastered thoroughly to pass your certification exam. You can find a phlebotomy program in many educational institutes including vocational training schools, community colleges and universities offering medical science and healthcare courses.

Each state requirement related to phlebotomy training & certification is different. Some aspects need to be considered when you choose a phlebotomy school.

Location

As there is a difference in state requirements, ensure to choose a program that fulfills the conditions of the state you are planning to work after your training is completed. It doesn’t matter if you choose an online or offline curso de flebotomista [phlebotomist course].

The states have specific requirement associated with minimum work experience, the candidates need to possess for getting though the license exams necessary to practice phlebotomists.

Accreditation

The potential program has to be accredited by a well-known phlebotomy accrediting agency. If there no accredited training course in your state, then think about getting enrolled in an accredited online training program. Many employers prioritize candidates who got trained at an accredited college.

Course components

Make sure that the study curriculum includes the given components -

  • Classroom module - Minimum 40 hours of academic classroom training. Many phlebotomy courses need 120 hours of academic training, which is more than the norm. It is better to choose a course that is closest to the 120-hour agenda.
  • Practical module - A minimum of 120 hours of practical training is offered. It takes place in a classroom setting, but most of the time in different venipuncture and healthcare settings. It includes medical clinics, hospitals, blood donation centers, and testing laboratories.

The practical portion of your training is the crucial component. You will be unable to get through the exam unless you successfully complete this module. Besides committing to the specific hours of practical training, candidates will need to perform a minimum of 100 blood collections on their own.

A program, which does not include a minimum of 120 hours mandatory for practical training in their curriculum indicates a red flag, avoid it like a plague!

It is the most challenging part of your training. Many patients are uncomfortable with needles and are difficult to handle. Several may have clotting issues after the blood sample is drawn, while a few may faint when they see their own blood.

The task is unpredictable and there are lots of variables involved, so practical training is a huge encounter. It is never boring and offers you more insight into what you will have to encounter when you become a qualified phlebotomist.

Reputation

Phlebotomy training programs are still not regulated, so you can see plenty of fake institutions popping around. Some offer the weekend course, while a few entice with a low-price tag. A worthwhile program will look like one mentioned above. You can look at what the current students and former graduates say about the potential training institute.

When you decide the right program, ensure to do good research of your narrowed choices. Choose a reputable phlebotomy school that offers a full spectrum of the academic and practical training module. Moreover, you will also need to work hard and acknowledge a valuable degree, which can be easily translated into a very rewarding career!
