Factors to be considered while buying a dumper truck

by Digital Marketing Digital Marketing

A dump truck, also known as a dump trailer, dump lorry, or a dumper for short, is used for moving materials (such as sand, gravel, or waste) for construction. A dump truck is manufactured with an open-box bed, which has a hinge at the rear and also has hydraulic rams to lift the front, allowing the substance in the bed to be dumped on the ground behind the truck. There is a difference between dumper and tripper. Usually, a tipper is considered as a road vehicle to load and unload anything from one place to another. The material which is transported are mostly materials used in construction sites or garbage collection. While dump truck is generally used in the mining area. It has more capacity compared to the tipper trucks and mostly contains more material than the tipper.

One must wonder what are the factors you should consider before buying a dump truck or tripper truck. I will let you know about important features of a dump truck which shall help you to interpret the dumper's performance and life expectancy.

 Capacity

Capacity is one of the most important factors that you should compare between two dumper trucks before buying any. Choose according to the work you want to complete with the help of the dumper because capacity decides how much heavy load can a dumper take. You can find a dumper with a capacity range of 750 kg- 250 tons. Mining dump trucks range between 50 to 250 tons While small trucks maybe around 10-ton capacity.

Power

In a dumper, truck power is generated from its engine. So, you need to check the brand, HP power, and torque generated by the engine in the dumper. The power of the dumper shall describe the performance of the dumper so it is also an important factor to be judged before buying. Engine performance is the main thing to be judged. A small dumper generates 125 HP power while the big ones generate up to 1950 HP power in the dump truck.

Transmission

There are different types of transmission available in the market. Some of the trucks have automated manual, planetary gear automatic transmissions. PGA transmission is mostly used in heavy vehicles. Transmission helps to adjust the gear ratio, which helps to change the speed of the truck. It also helps to maintain the performance of the truck.

Operating cost

Operating costs incurred while using the dump truck include fuel cost, regular maintenance, yearly expenses, operator expense. One must calculate the expenses that will be incurred if the use the dump truck hence it is an important factor too. Usually, small tippers don’t require the cleaner, as for a mining dumper, it requires a single driver and the long route requires the two drivers or cleaner. Fuel costs which is also a part of Operating cost have to be identified as all segments of the truck has different fuel consumption capacity.

These are the top 4 factors one must check before buying a dumper truck as it is a huge investment. One must keep in mind for what reason they are buying the truck and find out different trucks. Finally, compare the features of each truck and select the best.
