American technology executive David Goldberg, husband of Facebook Sheryl Sandberg apparently died after falling on a treadmill and hitting his head in a luxury resort in Mexico, officials said on Monday.
Goldberg, 47, was the chief executive of online research firm SurveyMonkey and husband director of Facebook Sheryl Sandberg operations. He died suddenly on Friday, according to his brother, who did not give a cause of death. Mexican authorities confirmed on Monday that he died in hospital after training accident during a family trip to the Pacific Coast Resort in Punta Mita, Nayarit in the state.
"His relatives have shown that he left for work, and she was worried when he did not return," said an official from the prosecutor's office. "They were looking for him and found him in a pool of blood next to a treadmill, apparently after he fell and hit his head in the gym," the official, who declined to be named, said.
