Malappuram, which implies a land in the hill stations, has really defended its name. Situated about 50 km in the south eastern direction from the hill station of Kozhikode, this spot is bordered by Nilgiri Hills in the east and Palakkad and Thrissur in the south and Arabian Sea in the west. Kozhikode - Popularly known as Calicut, this beautiful hill station is situated at a distance of more than 140 km from the city of Malappuram. The hill station came to existence in the late 15th century when the Portuguese traveler, Vasco Da Gama, arrived here and opened the route of business exchange between India and the European nations. Thus, you can witness a stunning mix of Indian and Portuguese architectural designs and culture in this city. Probably the visited hill station in the southern part of the country, Kozhikode is consist of tourists places like Thikkoti Light House, Kozhikode Beach, Kappad Beach, Vellari Mala, Thusharagiri Falls, Tali Temple, Pazhassiraja and Krishna Menon Museums, Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary, Peruvannamuzhi Dam and the popular Lion's Park. Manjeri - Situated towards the north eastern end of Malappuram at a distance of about 12 km, the town of Manjeri is a magnificent location to explore. Today, the town of Manjeri is fully known for its scenic locations and a great place to unwind from the commotion of the town life. The celebrated Arukizhaya Siva Temple is also situated in Manjeri, which is highly revered by the locals and tourists alike. One can easily take a taxi or a local transport to reach this town.


Nilambur - The Nilambur town which is situated at a distance of more than 40 km from Malappuram is known for its teak plantations. The exceptionally renowned, Conolly's plot, which is the most seasoned teak manor in the entire world is also located about 2 km from the Nilambur town. Situated close to the Chaliyar River, this plantation can be easily reached using a local speed boat. Apart from the Conolly's plot, there are various other vacation destinations in Nilambur to explore like the Vettakkorumakan Temple, Adyanpara Waterfalls, Nilambur Teak Museum, St Mary Church, Holy Family Church, St Francis Church, Central Forest Nursery and so forth.



Tanur - Tanur, a beach facing town where the Portuguese established their early settlements is situated at about 31 km from the city of Malappuram. It is well known as a home to angling and fishing activities and home to one of the oldest temples in Kerala, the Kerala Dharapuram Temple which is built in honor of Lord Vishnu and is only 3 km from the Tanur town. The coastal town also has some pristine beaches, making it a must visit destination in along with the attractions in Malappuram tourism.
