Explore More with Savings Made from Cheap Flights to Bangkok

by Amanda Sutcliffe Travel Deals

Bangkok, the Thai capital, is a city that continues to fascinate tourists around the world. It has just the kind of sights, thrills, and foods that its visitors need during their holidays. The most impressive aspect of the capital city of Thailand is the balance that it has maintained all this while between its ancient traditions and modernity. As a result, you'll find the towering skyscrapers peacefully co-existing with all those gleaming Buddhist temples and other historic structures. The surprises don't end here, as the city has a lot more to offer after sunset with its exciting nightlife.

Upon booking several months in advance or during the low seasons, you can get cheap flights to Bangkok and have greater savings that can be utilised for enjoying the fabulous offerings during your holidays spent in the city. There are several charming areas you can explore while getting around in Bangkok. The largest and most important among them is Sukhumvit Road, which is a major commercial street. It is quite a bustling part of the city with crowds of tourists and locals even during late evening and early morning hours. You'll find many luxury restaurants, elegant hotels, and shopping malls along this road, which extends all the way to the Cambodian border.

Another popular area in the Thai capital is Silom, which is a sub-district as well as a road located in the Bang Rak District. It is often referred to as the 'Wall Street of Thailand', as it is home to some of the country's largest companies, including several securities and insurance firms. One of the top hotels and rooftop bars are also located in this part of Bangkok. While exploring Silom, don't forget to visit the Mariamman Temple, which is also known as Wat Khaek or Maha Uma Devi Temple. This is one of the major Hindu temples in the country and was built in the late 19th century by a Tamil Hindu immigrant, Vaithi Padayatchi.

You'll also be delighted to explore an area in the Pathum Wan District of this Thai city, which locals popularly refer to as 'Siam'. Although it is a de facto neighbourhood, the local population consider it the heart of the capital. The area was the site of prominent structures, such as the 'Pathumwan Palace' and Don Mueang Airport, which was the first airport of Thailand upon its opening in 1914. Many of the companies and hotels located in this neighbourhood of Bangkok have the word 'Siam' prefixed with their names, such as Siam Kempinski Hotel, Siam Piwat, and Siam Cement Public Company Limited.

Located in the Ratchathewi district is a popular neighbourhood and intersection called Pratunam. The name literally translates as 'water gate' and refers to a water gate that was located within the Sa Pathum Palace. In recent times, it has gained huge popularity among tourists as a shopping district. Pratunam is home to several shopping centres and department stores, such as CentralWorld and Platinum Fashion Mall. You'll also come across some pan-Asian restaurants while exploring this area.
