Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory disease that disturbs the function of the bowel system. It causes soreness in the inner linings of the large intestine that produces severe pain. Ulcers can cause colon cancer if the condition gets worse.

1 million people suffered per year due to ulcerative colitis, it can last for a year or lifelong. There is no known cure for this but a patient can be diagnosed with medications and in the worst cases can undergo surgery.

Symptoms Of Ulcerative Colitis:

       Diarrhea

       Rectal pain

The symptoms may vary from person to person, and the treatments are given as per the intensity of the ulcers.

Types Of Ulcerative Colitis:

Doctors have classified ulcers in various ways, depending on which part of the human body is present.

       Left-sided colitis- Inflammation is spread through sigmoid and descending colon up to the rectum. Symptoms include cramps on the left side of the intestine, stool with blood and uncontrollable weight loss.

       Acute Ulcerative colitis- Though this is a rare form of ulcers, it causes extreme pain in the abdominal area and the inability to take in food.

       Pancolitis- One of the types of ulcerative colitis that affects the entire intestine system, causing fatigue, bloody bowel, and severe pain throughout.

       Proctosigmoiditis- It affects the rectum and the lower part of the intestine and unable to move the bowels despite the urge of doing it, cramps and weakness.

       Ulcerative proctitis- The inflammation is at the rectum and causes bleeding diarrhea. This is one of the mildest forms of intestine ulcers.
