by Simon Hopes Author

Employee’s Provident Fund (EPF) is a fund that is created by your employer in order to create a certain amount of social safety for you, for your future. The Provident Fund balance id the amount that has been deducted from your pay checks added with a certain percentage of amount added to it by your employer. As an employee you have every right to know your PF account balance so that you can plan for your retirement investments.

Initially, the employees had to wait for the year end to know the PF balance when the HR department provided them the statement of EPF. With the advent of technology, there is no need to wait till the end of the year, you can make the PF status check on your own, at any time.

There are four ways by which you can check your PF balances at any time and at any place. The four ways are

  1. EPFO portal
  2. SMS
  3. Missed call
  4. EPFO app

  1. EPFO Portal

If any EPF member would like to know his EPF balance at any given time and location, he can do so by logging into the EPFO’s official website using his UAN number and password. The member can access his passbook at www.epfindia.gov.in. Upon logging in, he has to

-          Select ‘Members Passbook’ under the ‘Services’ option.

-          Feed in the UAN number that is provided by the EPFO and verified by the employer.

-          You are directed to a page that shows you the PF balance and the contribution made over time.

All you need to do is add the first three letters of the preferred language at the end of the message. For instance, your preferred language is Tamil, and you want to receive the message in Tamil, your message has to be EPFOHO UAN TAM.

Make sure to provide all the necessary information to the portal while registering to get the correct status.
