Engineered wood floor is a man-made engineered product made from anywhere between three to twelve layers of natural materials. The natural layers are made from hardwood of soft plywood. Engineered hardwood flooring is produced by fusing together many layers of timber. This structure is then topped up with a layer of hardwood lamella also known as ‘wear layer’. Lamella is glued and pressure-pressed on top of the main structure. It provides the wooden flooring structure an engineered wooden floor look and feel that closely resembles the look of a solid hardwood floor.

You get three types of engineered wood flooring in the market, i.e. Multi Ply, Three Ply and HDF. A Multi Ply engineered wood is manufactured by fusing together tightly different layers of plywood to produce the main structure of the flooring plank. It is then completed by applying real wood veneer on top. This makes the structure very strong, durable and capable of handling heavy footfall. Multi Ply wooden flooring is suitable for any type of interior setup. Three Ply is very similar to Multi Ply with the key differentiator being the use of only three layers instead of multi-layers of wooden planks. This change in the design makes a Three Ply much cheaper than Multi Ply and yet as strong and durable as its counterparts. The three layers that go into making of this type of flooring are plywood, softwood and top layer of veneer. HDF, the third type engineered wood flooring consist of HDF (high density fibre-board) core. HDF is extremely resistant to moisture but it is comparatively much cheaper than the other two types of engineered wood floors.
