Energy Focus
Today announced that the Company was recently visited by Ohio's 14th District US Congressman David P. Joyce, Member of the United States House Committee on Appropriations, at its headquarters facility in Solon, OH. Congressman Joyce spoke to employees and toured the facility observing EFOI employees assembling LED lighting products the Company supplies to the US Navy.

"We are pleased to be able to build high efficiency LED lighting products for the US Navy" said James Tu, Energy Focus Executive Chairman, "and especially pleased to host Congressman Joyce at our facility. Congressman Joyce's interest in Energy Focus reinforces the importance of the job all of us at Energy Focus are doing creating energy efficient, cost effective LED lighting for US Navy ships as well as for land based public and commercial buildings."

Congressman Joyce addressed Energy Focus employees in Solon, commenting on the importance of making fiscally responsible choices in Washington: "I am proud to visit a cutting edge company in the 14th Congressional district that's working to save the federal government money," Congressman David P. Joyce noted. "As I've said over and over again, it's a priority to save taxpayer dollars and improve the efficiency of the federal government. I'm proud that Ohioans are making this important contribution to strengthen the Armed Services and trying to save us taxpayers dollars at the same time."

There are currently 273 warships serving in the US Navy and Energy Focus is the sole approved provider of LED fluorescent tube replacement products. The Company received its first $23 million multi-year contract to provide retrofit LED lighting for Navy ships in August 2011 with $5.7 million having been fulfilled to date under the contract. The US Naval Sea Systems Command will continue installing Energy Focus lighting on its combatant and amphibious ships over the next several years as part of the Navy's maritime energy strategy. Product supplied under the contract, however, will result in relighting only about 7% of the fleet.

"We estimate that if all the lights on diesel-powered ships not covered under the current contract are replaced with our LED products, the Navy could save an additional $494 million on fuel consumption driven savings over a 10-year period with an estimated cost of $92 million. In addition, the ships outfitted with the new lighting would be completely free of the mercury hazard fluorescent lights create," continued Mr. Tu. "If the Navy requests a stepped up retrofit program, we believe we could provide what the Navy needs to the job in less than two years. For our part, we are doing everything we can to promote the awareness of such significant environmental and budgetary benefits within US Navy decision making circles."
