One of the safest vehicle transportation method, auto enclosed transport is often the ideal choice for owners with expensive or vintage vehicles. However, because the cost of auto enclosed has now become accessible, more and more people are now opting for this.

Direct Dispatch, one of the best vehicle shipping companies in America, offers both kinds of transport as their primary service.

Auto enclosed transport holds some obvious benefits over the other but the question remains: is it worth the extra cost, when held in comparison to open auto transport?

Enclosed Auto Transport

This type of vehicle transport features a fully enclosed trailer, in where the car to be shipped is placed. It provides a secure environment for the vehicle, while it’s in transit.

Owners of highly prized autos, antiques, luxury and/or very expensive sports cars often prefer this mode of vehicle shipping. The reason is simple: enclosed auto transport offers a greater degree of security and protection to the vehicle while in transit.

3 Key Differences with Enclosed Auto Transport

Following are the salient differences between enclosed and open auto transport;

Enclosed Carriers Are More Expensive

Due to the unusualness of enclosed vehicle transporters, carriers and broker companies charge more (nearly 75% till 100%) as compared to traditional open auto transporters. It makes sense to ship valuable and expensive cars via the enclosed option as there’s more chance of the car getting damaged from outside elements and events in an open transport.

Securing Mechanism Is Very Different

In open vehicle transporters, the car that’s being transported is typically secured by only one or two chains (wrapped around the car’s tires). Due to the design of the truck, this mechanism is considered as the standard and quite safe. Enclosed trailers, however, are much different in their size (they’re smaller) and are thus unable to accommodate more than one car (or 2-4) at a time, which is why it needs a special safety harness that helps keep the vehicle from sliding around inside and getting damaged. In order to allow zero motion from the vehicle inside, heavy duty ropes are used to secure the car properly to the floor.

Enclosed Carriers Offer Cloth Overcoat

This is offered only by some and not all enclosed vehicle transporters though. The cloth overcoat can be placed on the vehicle as an added protection from dirt, dust and/or anything unsavory that may or may not be present in the trailer at the time of transit.

An important factor that helps car owners determines as to which type of vehicle transporter to use is the newness of paint job on the car. Of course, there’re vehicle shipping companies such as Direct Dispatch that offer affordable rates on all of its services! Get in touch today.
