Employers Need to be Aware of Pending Changes in Laws Relating to Overtime.

by PRC Agency PR

Bellas & Wachowski Attorneys at Law has published a new article entitled "Employers Should Review Their Payroll as the Overtime Exempt Salary Threshold Rises." Employers who have employees that do not qualify for overtime pay and other interested individuals can view the full article at https://www.businessattorneychicago.com/employers-should-review-payroll-as-the-overtime-exempt-salary-threshold-rises/

The article includes several interesting pieces of information relating to the new overtime compliance regulations that kick in at the beginning of 2020. This should be of particular interest to employers, as they will need to adjust their employees to be either exempt or to pay them more for overtime worked.

One of the most important pieces of information is that between now and January 1, employers will need to adjust their payroll to meet compliance, either by reclassifying employees who earn $455 to $684 per week as non-exempt, or giving them raises to at least $684 to keep their status as exempt (and thus ineligible for overtime.).

In discussing the article's creation, George S. Bellas, Partner in the Law firm of Bellas and Wachowski at Bellas & Wachowski Attorneys at Law said:

"Businesses should start by figuring out who on their payrolls will be affected and decide what to do on a case-by-case basis — either reclassifying their positions, giving them a raise, restructuring their positions to change their type of assignment, or finding an exemption under the FLSA.."

Regular readers of Bellas & Wachowski Attorneys at Law will notice the article as most relevant to those who are seeking to understand the new rules for paying overtime.

Bellas & Wachowski Attorneys at Law now welcomes comments and questions from readers, in relation to the article, as it is the intent of the article to inform employers that they should be conducting a thorough wage-and-hour audit in order to remain in compliance. Obligations differ by jurisdiction and thus it is important to review how the exemption affects your particular business.
