E-liquid and its Ingredients

by Nicotine River Nicotineriver

E-liquid – also called E-juice or Vape juice – is a fluid that is placed in the tank of an e-cigarette or vape to generate vapour. E-liquid is what you inhale and exhale while vaping. We all are familiar with the basic scientific law that water changes its nature when heated. E-liquid acts in a similar way. The liquid turns into vapour when there is a rise in temperature. You have your own temperature preference depending upon the vaping kit. However, E-liquid is usually heated between 90°C and 200°C.

E-liquid ingredients

E-liquid is a mixture of:

1. Nicotine (Not always)

2. PG (Propylene Glycol) and VG ( Vegetable Glycerine) – or sometimes both

3. Food-grade flavouring

1. Nicotine

Most people think that nicotine in tobacco and E-juice is the most dangerous chemical, but this is not really true. However, nicotine is very addictive, and regular consumers tend to experience an intense craving for it there's a delay in consumption.

2. PG (Propylene Glycol) and VG (Vegetable Glycerine)

People often get confused about PG and VG when it comes to choosing E-liquid. In the case of most reputed E-liquid manufacturers, both PG and VG are mixed so that you get the benefits of both.

3. Synthetic flavorings

Manufacturers use a range of synthetic flavouring to avoid the loss of flavours in E-liquid. This is because many people are allergic to natural flavourings. However, regular consumers have been saying that a combination of synthetic flavoring provides a fantastic flavour hit. The names of these flavorings appear to be very scientific. The development and testing process for creating these flavourings is quite strenuous.

Manufacturers have also said to the consumers that these flavouring compounds are safe to consume, just like a normal food ingredient.

But what compounds produce what flavours?

1. Vanillin

As anyone would expect, the synthetic flavoring compound called Vanillin gives the mellow, sweet and creamy flavour, that is often associated with vanilla. There's no doubt about the fact that, Vanillin is the most popular flavour and fragrance compound globally. It’s characteristic flavour of sweet but heady notes are derived from the vanilla bean.

2. Limonene

You wouldn’t be wrong if you guess citrus fruits such as limes or lemons when you see this flavouring listed in your product. When you add Limonene to E-liquid you get the sweet, clean and fresh taste just like you get from your citrus fruits. Limonene is used not just in E-liquid but in medicines also. It's refreshing flavor helps in masking bitter notes from other ingredients making it one of the most common ingredients in cosmetic products.
