Effective Social Media Strategies for Your Business

by Emma L. Business consultant

Over the years, social media has become quite business-friendly. In fact, almost every company out there uses platforms such as Twitter and Facebook to communicate with their customers directly. If you're running your own business, you probably already know this and are looking for most effective social media strategies that'll give your online presence a boost. Listed below are five of them that might be exactly what your business needs.

Know which platforms to use

Social media has developed a lot during the last ten years and there's now a number of platforms businesses can use to promote their brand and connect with customers. However, this doesn't mean you should try to incorporate all of them into your social media strategy. It's just that trying to be active across all popular platforms is time-demanding and you might be better off focusing on your core operations. Instead, what you should do is determine which platforms your customers use and focus on them in your strategy. For example, if your target audience is teenagers, starting an Instagram page is a must. In case you're running a B2B business, LinkedIn is the platform you should focus on.

Be consistent

We already talked about how many social media platforms there are at the moment. Every business trying to be on a few of them needs to understand the importance of being consistent when it comes to content and visuals. There are so many businesses on social media these days and you can't expect people to recognize you unless you use the same profile pictures and colour schemes across all platforms your business is on. The same goes for the content you create for social media. Share it on every platform you use and make sure you include the same comment. Once social media users start recognizing you across multiple platforms, you can be assured your social media efforts are paying off.

Include your team members

Your business is much more than just your logo. Most entrepreneurs make a mistake of not realizing this when using social media. While there's nothing wrong with using your logo as your profile picture, it's critical to upload photos of your team members and try to include them in your every post. This shows that there are real people behind your brand and makes it much easier for your followers to form an emotional connection with your business. It's recommended to include things such as personalised mugs into your photos and have your employees wear their uniforms when taking pictures for social media. Also, always ask for your employees' permission before uploading their photo to social media.

Publish high-quality content

Long gone are the days when people only used social media for chatting with their friends and scrolling through their photos. Nowadays, they also look for content they'll find interesting and useful. This means that you can use your expertise to create content that'll attract people to your page and gain you even more exposure. Just bear in mind that creating content just for content's sake isn't going to do you any good. Instead, provide your followers with relevant information and keep looking for ways you can do it in a more interesting way. At the moment, video content and infographics seem to yield the best results when it comes to social media.

Keep an eye on your competition

Keep in mind that you're not the only business in your industry on social media. In fact, chances are all of your competitors are there as well. Maybe you can't take a look at what's happening in their office but what you can do is keep an eye on their social media pages. This can help you identify the ways they've managed to grab their followers' attention and get more likes and shares. Of course, this doesn't mean you should just go and copy everything they do on social media. Simply use it as a learning material and come up with your own ideas when it comes to social media.

Final thoughts

Due to how popular it is at the moment, no business can afford not to be on social media. Use these strategies and you should see your social media efforts starting to pay off even more.
