Educating rural India towards healthcare and hygiene through welfare projects
Education towards healthcare and hygiene is considered to be one of the major aspects of the education system in India. We find in the earlier rural scenario of India, people don't put too much effort in the education system relating to healthcare. However, nowadays, one of the most important issues is health care and to have a quality life, healthcare education is necessary.
Rural Healthcare is one of the biggest challenges that India is facing today. Due to poor health care facilities, the mortality rate has taken a rise in the rural areas of India. More than 70% of India's population is living under the roof of rural setup. There is a lack of proper supply of water and electricity. They manage to get a little water from far away distant places in order to proceed with their daily activities.
Education means a change of behavior. It moves the individual to increase appreciation and knowledge and finally to action from lack of interest and ignorance. Healthcare education offers a great opportunity to individuals to learn about the essentials for health, which helps them to take steps to improve the quality of their food and their lifestyle and thus their well-being.
The governmental and non-governmental organizations of India have taken an active step to initialize various programs associated with healthcare and hygiene. In rural India, NGOs organize various social awareness programs and try to provide with the basic education towards healthcare and hygiene, which can ultimately benefit the growth of the nation.
To improve behavior through useful practices connected to personal, water, food, domestic and public hygiene is what the school hygiene education aims at. Also, it aims to protect water and food supplies and to safely manage environmental factors.
Today, the NGOs in the country assume a conspicuous role in multifarious developmental programs and welfare projects in rural India. The achievements and success of NGOs in various fields and the excellent work done by them in specific areas is no doubt a tremendous task that has helped to meet the changing needs of the social system. However, in spite of its achievements in various fields, NGOs are facing different problems in providing health care and hygiene related education in rural India, which differs from organization to organization, region to region. In this context, an attempt is made in this paper to discuss some of the common problems faced by the NGOs and to give some remedies to overcome these problems.
