Dummy’s Guide To Cooking With Spices

by Kristen White Blogger
Spices have been used in cooking since several years. They are excellent agents for adding flavor to any kind of food. Not only are they beneficial for your taste buds but also for the health of your family. Many people are under the impression that spices are used only in Indian cuisine, whereas in reality they can be used in a variety of world cuisines.
Tips for cooking with spices

1.Storage is critical- For spices to remain flavorful and fresh for a long time, they should be stored in the correct place. Ideally, a place away from direct heat, like a dark and cool environment would be best suited for them. They must not be placed next to OTG’s or gas stoves.
2.Don’t use expired spices- Although a lot of people might think that spices do not go bad, the truth is that they do. You can make out differences, in the form of depleted flavors and dull colors. For example, paprika is originally found in bright red color, but it may turn dull brown once past its expiration date.
3.Purchase a grinder- It is possible to prepare Cheap Easy Meals On A Budget by incorporating ground spices into a spice grinder. Spices can be ground fairly quickly and they will impart much fuller flavor to your meal in comparison to pre-ground spices.
4.Play with the grade of the grind- Depending upon the degree to which it is ground, the flavor that a spice gives to food varies. For example, black pepper, when finely ground has a very strong and harsh flavor, but coarse grinding gives it a mild flavor.
5.Gauge the change in form- Develop an understanding of how your meal will change upon the addition of spices
6.Toast the spice- An example of this will be the use of dried red chilies. The chilies can be roasted in a pan over some time, to impart a smoky and spicy flavor to pulses. This method can be used with both ground and whole spices.
7.Use small graters- Spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg and garlic can be ground directly over the pan for incorporating into Quick And Easy Tasty Dinners. For this, you need to grate them on small graters, which are also called microplanes.
8. All ground chilies and peppers are not equal- Some ground spices have a lot of heat but very little flavor, while the reverse is true for others. Cayenne pepper is an example of one with more heat and less flavor.
9.Try different combinations- Read about mild and strong spices, and a basic idea of the overall flavors will help you experiment with combinations
10.Scaling up a recipe doesn’t mean increasing spices- The degree to which you scale up spices will depend on how flavorful they are. Many a times, adding more spices given overpowering flavors that are detrimental for dishes.
There are companies which deliver meals that can be cooked using spices. You must try them out for a flavorful experience.
