DTF- A Revolutionary Printing Technology

by Praveen Singh SEO Manager

There has been a rapid growth in the field of digital textile printing over the last decade with more and more inclination towards digitization of prints on custom T shirts near me. The digital printers allow the users to inculcate with ease an enormous color variety in different textiles with the aim of making the entire process a reliable and cost effective one. There are different processes which are considered under the ambit of printing on textiles with DTF i.e. Direct to Film printing being the latest one.

What is DTF Printing?

As the name suggests, the process of DTF printing is all about printing on a film and then using the same for transferring onto the fabric. The most prominent advantage of this process comes in the form of the freedom that it provides in terms of fabric being used for printing. The DTF printing process can work wonders on any fabric- be it cotton, polyester, silk, or even synthetic fabrics such as terrycot and rayon.

What is the DTF printing process?

The DTF printing can be done using a simple inkjet printer, a computer and DTF supplies such as DTF paper, DTF powder and DTF ink. A raster image processor (RIP) is used for the purpose of converting images into bitmap. The RIP software is used for printing the image which is then transferred onto the garment using a heat process.

Next, the image is printed on the DTF paper and then a thin layer of DTF powder is dusted on the image print. The powder is nothing but an adhesive which is used for the purpose of binding the print on the garment.

The garment is then placed on the heat press table in order to begin the heat transfer process. The powder coated side of the printed image needs to be in touch with the garment. Once the image gets aligned, a parchment paper is used for the purpose of covering it and then the heat press process gets started in a short period of time. The heat aids in transferring the image to the garment.

The garment is then allowed to cool down for some time and then the printer paper is peeled off so that the image gets stuck on the garment. The feel of the print thus obtained is quite soft and remains durable after many washes.

What are the advantages of DTF technology?

  • Economical

DTF is a revolutionary technology which does not require a massive investment to print T shirt online. A normal inkjet printer can be used for the purpose of creating DTF prints. Since, much cost is not involved and the same can be easily recovered; the technology is considered to be a cost effective one.

  •  Pre-treatment of the garment

Unlike its other counterparts, there is no requirement to treat the garment before making it go through the DTF process.

  •  Wide variety of garments

One of the most celebrated advantages of using DTF technology is that it can be used on a wide variety of fabrics such as cotton, rayon, polyester, terrycot etc.

  •  Process speed

The speed with which the DTF printing takes place for creating printed hoodies or any other T-shirt is phenomenal. The large scale garment manufacturing firm can employ this technology for achieving breakeven.

  •  Durability

The prints created using DTF technology are high resolution and vibrant images which have a factor of durability attached to it. The fabrics designed using DTF come with good wash features.

Final thoughts

To conclude, DTF technology provides a cost effective solution for T shirt printing online which promises excellent quality, versatility and efficiency.  However, the supplies used for the DTF process may be a little expensive, but the same can be recovered once the economies of scale operation takes place.
