Dream Location Tips for Better Photography

by Abhinav G. Movie Enthusiast
Preparing for that special vacation requires a certain discipline and, along with a bit of research, can save you time and money once you’ve arrived at your dream location.

One of the most simple, and often overlooked, suggestions before departing on the trip is the creation of a checklist. Although we’ve previously discussed here some essentials for that list, there are other items and issues equally as important.
To make those images really stand out, setting them apart from a basic travel picture, take some time to research the subject of composition. Balance, symmetry, rule of thirds, tension, depth, effective use and placement of color, and use of lines will help improve your Lifestyle photography vacation.

Research your location before you go, either by visiting a bookstore’s travel section, or searching the web. You can obtain many great ideas just by leafing through a pictorial of the area, or studying maps of the locations you plan to visit.
Understand the importance of your camera’s functions, and carry your owner’s manual with you on the trip. We often hear stories of people taking their new camera on a vacation, only to come home with less than successful images, simply because they did not understand the operations of the camera and its settings.
If your location has internet access and your laptop is going on the vacation, go ahead and save your day’s images to the computer each night. You’ll free up card memory for the next day, and if one of your cards has a technological breakdown (they’re known to do it), you’ve at least saved some of your images.

This leads to another suggestion. Take more cards (and don’t forget the reader) than you think you need. Replacing one, or having to buy an extra one on the trip cuts into the vacation budget, and your time.
