Solitaires are single piece diamonds which should be bought with utmost care as these are high on a budget. Buying solitaire earrings for the lady of the house or your fiancée can be a tedious task if you are not well equipped with the knowledge about it.

Every woman in the world loves to adorn herself with jewellery. When it comes to buying earrings for yourself or for gifting to others, nothing can beat the classic style of earrings studded with a solitaire diamond. They look simple with a striking beauty and make a bold statement. However, you must do a lot of deliberation before picking the piece of your choice. Here is a simple list of dos and don'ts of buying solitaire.

Do’s of buying Solitaire Diamond Earrings

Looking into the 4 C’s of diamond is utmost important.

        Color

Diamonds are available in different colours which are named as D, E, F, G, H, I and so on. The colours from D-F appear colourless when non-mounted. G-I appear almost transparent whereas J onwards have a yellowish tinge. The further you go, the yellowish tinge increases. Most of the people prefer a colourless quality which is higher on price. So you should go for a colour which suits your budget.

        Carat

Carat is the measuring unit for weight of diamonds. The more the weight or the carat, the higher the price. When buying solitaire earrings, you will need two pieces of the same weight. It is usually difficult to get two pieces of exact weight and similarity. There might be a difference of few cents in the weight of diamonds which is not visible without minute observation. After mounting, the two pieces look same. So look for the carat of the diamond before you buy the earrings.

Cut

The cut of the diamond determines its beauty and value. The facets, angles and precision with which a diamond gets cut is what makes it different. Excellent cut diamond is the prize catch for you.

        Clarity

Clarity is the grading of diamonds which determines its visual appearance. A diamond is graded as VVS1, VVS2, VS1, VS2, SI1, SI2, I1, I2, 13, FL, etc.  VVS stands for very very slightly included, VS stands for slightly included, SI stands for slightly included, I stand for inclusions and FL means flawless. The clarity gives the extra shine and sparkle. The blemishes, inclusion, etc. are the inclusions or spots which are visible in bigger pieces.

        5th C or the certificate

The International Gemological Institute certifies a solitaire diamond piece and issues a certificate for it which authenticates its purity and grade. The solitaire gets identified with a number on its girdle. This number helps to check the certificates online and verify whether you have been told the right facts or not. This certificate also helps you to get a good resale value in case you wish to sell the earrings in future.

Don’t’s of Buying Diamond Earrings

1.       Always go for better quality. Often people prefer to buy a bigger piece with less clarity and inferior colour due to budget constraint. Better quality solitaire has good resale value and looks striking even if it is small in size.

2.       Do not go for two diamonds of different dimensional property. It will spoil the beauty of your earrings.

3.       I1 clarity is a better bet compared to G or H clarity diamonds as the difference in effect after mounting them on the setting of the earrings is minimal.

4.       Do not go for an earring setting which suppresses the colour or the shine of your solitaire.

5.       Do not compromise if the diamonds have scratches, grains, spots, chips, etc.

6.       If you have to choose between two pieces with the carat weight for ex- 1 carat 95 cents and two carats 5 cents, go for the lesser weight piece. Though look wise both pieces will look almost similar, the price per carat will change drastically. In the case of solitaires, the moment carat weight changes the whole number numeral such as from 1 to 2, the rate changes.

Most importantly, buy the earrings from a certified jeweller who has a trusted name. There are a lot of jewellers who offer facilities like lifetime warranty, limited period return policy, money back guarantees, etc. Do proper research before taking that plunge.

You should be knowledgeable about the diamond jewellery you wish to buy otherwise you might end up buying the one which might not be the best for you. This article should help make an informed decision. You can plethora of solitaire diamond jewellery on SuratDiamond.com.
