Do’s and Dont’s In Turkey
It is true that wanderlust takes us to faraway places. We explore various cities and countries. Some of them are friendly while others not so. Some experience stays for a lifetime as sweet memories while other not so sweet. Whatever be the case, the thrill of being at a new place is unparalleled. It is with this excitement in heart that one would venture into Turkey in Istanbul. I say so because unless one is really driven by the urge one might think a million times before setting foot there. With the current global political condition (I will not blame a community in particular; however the unrest in various countries are spreading rapidly at some points, especially in the countries with a majority of Muslims) it is really a matter of great courage that one will even consider being in Istanbul.

So, if you are going to Turkey, make sure you have these few points noted down somewhere. The people over there are really great and welcoming, but you will have to be careful that you do not hurt anyone’s sentiment unwillingly. This list of dos and donts will help you through the tour of this wonderful city.
Ø The first thing to remember is not to stay in Taksim. This place is just like a nightclub, sans any ban or limitation on the volume of the music. This is quite a nuisance for you if you are trying to sleep at night. The building is old and not much soundproof. It is a much better place if you are thinking about spending the night awake. There are many more hotels in Istanbul and you may check-in into any one of them.
Ø Do not ever suggest that what you are eating is actually Greek cuisine at any Turkish restaurant or eatery. These people have a long standing quarrel about who has actually invented which food and thus it is best not to use your Greek knowledge of gourmet at this place. Better get the names of the dishes from the waiter and keep a note of them. It is much safer than being on the wrong side of the Turks. Also, one more thing to remember is never turn down a offer of tea. Turkish people are really sensitive in this matter and will take offence if you reject the offer. It is just like you are sending a friend request on a social media platform. The Turkish people have a lovely habit of trying to convey their point and overcome any language barrier. Do appreciate this effort and have a little chat over a cup of tea.
Ø Do not take a taxi or cab, especially in the peak hours. It is one of the worst mistakes since the taxi will move slower than you walking. It is much better to go on foot and follow the local map. You will be able to check out quite a lot of places on your way to the destination.
Ø If you are visiting a mosque, as a non-worshipper it is not mandatory to cover the entire head. However, do remember that plunging necklines and shorts will never be allowed in the mosques. Make sure your clothes have a decent length if you plan on visiting the mosque.
For the purpose of accommodation, I would suggest Sumahan on the Water as the perfect place in Turkey.Post Your Ad Here
