One of the most effective ways to deal with a balding situation is undergoing transplantation of hair. But this is no child’s play. This is a big decision that needs a mature and responsible approach and, of course, a skilled surgeon.

The first step is to determine whether you are eligible for the transplant procedure. Meanwhile, you must determine whether you are in the hands of a good surgeon. Once both things are determined and turn out to be positive, you are all set for the procedure.

Hot Tip

Listen to your hair transplant doctor. Follow their instructions like the Bible. This way, you would avoid complications and encourage better recovery.

Your doctor will provide you a list of things to do and not to do before and after the procedure. You must not take them lightly. Any carelessness on your side can prove to be risky.

In case you are doubtful about remembering all the do’s and don’ts, you may ask the doctor to give you a printed version of the instructions. Keep them handy with you.

Right after the procedure

You must have somebody with you to drive you home after the procedure. It is risky to drive on your own, as you are still under the influence of anesthesia. Once you reach home, take as much rest as you can the whole day. Sleep well at night. The body repairs and rejuvenates itself at night. This helps in recovery after surgery.

For the first three nights, you must lie down with your head elevated a little to avoid swelling.

Avoid touching the donor area of your scalp. If you must, first wash your hands with soap and water.

A day after the procedure

Your hair transplant doctor may ask you to wash hair a day after the procedure. Please be careful while doing so. Don’t let water hit your transplanted grafts directly. They may become dislodged. Pour water gently on the scalp using a cup. Use your fingertips gently to wash the treated area.

Avoid rubbing your scalp to dry off. Simply wrap a soft towel around the head to absorb excess moisture. Let hair air dry.

A week after the procedure

You must still refrain from consuming alcohol or smoking. Avoid medicines that have aspirin in their formulations. Aspirin is a blood thinner. It might interfere with healing. Your doctor might ask you to stop all medications for a few days after the procedure, so it is best to inform the doctor about your medication history.

You must still avoid rigorous physical activity. However, you can resume your normal routine within a couple of days after the procedure.

While stepping outdoors, cover your head to protect your new grafts from pollution and the sun, lest they may get infected.

Your doctor will tell you about the follow-up visit to the hair transplant clinic near MD

Common side effect

Bleeding at the transplanted area is a common side effect. In this case, gently press the area. Usually, the bleeding stops within a few minutes. If it doesn’t, call your doctor immediately.
