Don't Believe the Myths About Teeth Whiteningby Imtiyaz Alam Mind Digital Group
In the field of dentistry, a subject that is so exciting is tooth whitening. A lot of products of whitening are available in the market but there is no surety that they will benefit you. Some of these items may not be suitable for your teeth and may harm them. Now I am going to describe some myths about tooth whitening. You should not believe any of these myths.
Myth 1: It will be effective to whiten teeth with the use of alternative methods.
Some people take interest in those alternatives of tooth whitening that are natural. But they should be aware of that none of these alternatives will work. It is not possible to remove tooth stains by rubbing limes, lemons and oranges on them. These fruits contain acids and are not good for your oral health. Your dentin can expose due to wearing out of your enamel which will result in tooth discoloration and all this happens because of the citric acid present in these fruits.
A few people believe that their teeth can become white if they will do oil pulling. In this process, the people take coconut oil or mineral oil in their mouth and swish well. They think that tooth discoloration occurs because impurities are present in our mouth and for removing these impurities oil pulling will work. But there is no scientific evidence that proves oil pulling will work.
Myth 2: It will be much better to whiten teeth at home.
Some people think that for whitening teeth they do not need to go to a dentist because there is an availability of a lot of whitening kits in the market. But the fact is that nothing can replace the professional whitening procedure. You can get moderate or mild results with the kits that whiten teeth.
Normally with the use of carbamide peroxide and hydrogen peroxide, the dentist performs this procedure. He starts the process of chemical whitening by activating the peroxide with the help of UV light. If we compare this procedure with several kits available in the market then we find that this procedure will help in restoring a whiter enamel because a professional dentist performs it.
Myth 3: Our teeth will permanently become white after undergoing a whitening procedure.
If you will undergo a tooth whitening procedure for one time only then this will keep your teeth white for a few years or several months only. But in order to whiten your teeth for a lifetime, you need to undergo this procedure multiple times. Your habits of maintaining oral hygiene determine whether you need to undergo this procedure frequently or after a certain period of time. If you want to avoid the formation of tartar that happens because of the hardening of plaque on your teeth then do brushing at least 2 times daily. Don’t consume tobacco, red wine, tea or coffee because these are responsible for tooth stains.
Myth 4: On dental prosthetics, the tooth whitening procedure will work.
Some people undergo the procedure of porcelain or ceramic crowns or veneers. When tooth staining occurs then stains also develop on these dental prosthetics. It is possible to remove the tooth stains with the help of certain kinds of treatments but these treatments will not work on dental prosthetics.
Deep cleaning of the dental enamel is possible because of its porous structure but such kind of structure is not present with dental prosthetics. So, removing the stains is not possible in these dental prosthetics. Replacing the stained crowns or veneers is the only solution. If I have to undergo a tooth whitening treatment then I would like to visit the dental clinic near me.
