Humans are interdependent creatures.  A human being cannot live secluded in the island. We depend upon each other for many things. And there are some people who depend upon us. These people cannot live on their own for various reasons. That is why the philanthropic organisations, the NGOs have made some provisions for such people. But even the NGOs cannot feed them forever. What they require from us is a trifling fraction of the income we earn. They require a small amount of what we call donation.

The time we live in is the era of technology. With the advent opf digital world, everything is possible without even taking a trouble of getting out of our homes. Internet has made everything possible. We can shop online, pay our bills, book movie tickets and now we can also donate money online. So the quote ‘Charity begins at home.’, has a whole new dimension.

Online donation is a s easy as a child’s play. But it is certainly not as straighforward. There are numerous donation websites available on the internet. Amongst the genuine ones, there are a few fake ones as well. These fraudulent websites are developed by some greedy people who, in the name of charity, are tring to fill their pockets. So one should really be aware about such websites. It is always suggested that one must do a thorough research before donating any funds to any online donation website.

Spending for a good cause is as important and saving. This is something even our government promotes. That is why there a law which privides us with a tax exemption if we donate a certain amount of our income to a charitable trust or an NGO. The law regarding donation tax exemption has existed in our constitution since 1967.  According to Article 80G of Income Tax Act, 1961, one can donate a certain amount of money to an indidual, a philanthropic organisation, or an Ngo and receive a tax exemption on amount doated. The only condition government applies is that this exemption is not applicable when the funds are donated to a political party, or a foreign institution. Existing sine the financial year 1967-68, this law allows and individual to have tax benefits on upto 10 percent of his/her monthly income.
