If you are one of those who loves thrifty DIY home products, or are concerned about the environment and the ill-effects of chemical-loaded products on your skin, then hacks are the way to go.

But making some of them can be tiresome and require several items, which may not be available at your local supermarket. Here are some simple DIY products that you can make with items easily available in your kitchen...

Foot soak

What you need: Mouthwash, vinegar, warm water

Here's how: Mix 1/2 cup mouthwash with 1/2 cup vinegar. Add this to one cup of warm water. Soak your feet in this mixture for around 10 minutes. Scrub your feet, if required. This process removes dead skin and leaves your skin smooth and soft.

Simple and effective deodorant

What you need: Baking soda, essential oil

Here's how: Add about 20 drops of your choice of essential oil to 1/4 cup of baking soda. Transfer this mixture into a jar. This does not look like regular deodorant, but it works equally well. After a shower, just pat — don't rub — some of the mixture onto your pits with your fingers until it is no longer visible, and you're set.

Eye makeup remover

What you need: Filtered water, olive oil

Here's how: Fill a small container halfway with filtered water. Add 1/3 parts olive oil. Simply dip a cotton ball into this mixture and use it to wipe away eye makeup. Not only is this gentle, but an added advantage is that it also moisturizes the area around your eye.

Blackhead remover

What you need: Baking soda, honey

Here's how: Mix two tablespoons of baking soda with one tablespoon of honey. Apply this thick sticky paste onto your face and leave for around 15 minutes. Scrub slightly as you wash it off.

Shaving gel

What you need: Aloe vera gel, olive oil, essential oil

Here's how: Mix one part olive oil with three parts aloe vera gel. Add around 20 drops of an essential oil of your choice (you can even skip this part). Mix well and store in a container. Keep this in your bathroom and apply on damp skin before shaving.

Nail polish remover

What you need: Vinegar, lemon juice, warm water, cotton balls

Here's how: Mix equal parts vinegar and lemon juice in a bowl. Soak a few cotton balls in this mixture. While this is happening, soak your nails in some warm water to loosen the nail polish. Apply the vinegar and lemon juice mixture with the cotton balls on your nails for around 20 seconds. Wipe off.
