Discord Announces Noise Suppression Feature

by mary Watson Writer

Discord is one of the most used audio, video and text communication services in the world. Redditors and other internet users around the world thrive on different chat communities. The communication network is fun, easy-to-use, and so varied in its scope that a lot of people find it the best way to discourse. Their new additional feature will enhance your audio call experience as you will be able to suppress any background noise coming from your end. So that means, flush it down all you want, people over the call won’t be able to hear a peep.

A MIX OF TECHNOLOGIES MADE IT POSSIBLE!

The new technology added through Krisp machine-learning-based noise-suppressing technology will be used to filter out any external sound. It processes any average background noise and prevents them from entering into the audio compression. This audio compression tech is based on Opus audio codec. Through the combination of these two new technologies, we will be able to use Discord’s audio calls with way more efficiency.

Any familiar sounds like traffic, primary machines like blowers and obviously the previously mentioned toilet flush won’t be registered by your device while on call. The communication service has over 100 million users who currently use any of the three mediums they provide. Through text, video and audio platforms, people all over the world communicate with each other.

IF IT IS IN THE BACKGROUND, IT SHOULDN’T BE HEARD!

The whole idea explained by the makers is that they want to be the place where everyone gets to talk. Taking this to the next level meant giving people the freedom to speak anywhere while doing anything. They already tried it successfully with the desktop app and brought it on to other platforms.

THE PLAN IS TO CHANGE THE WAY WE GET TO TALK!

Firstly, they plan to bring the noise suppression feature to leading operating systems, Android, and iOS. The only thing they have to be careful about is the amount of CPU usage that goes into it. Although the audio chat itself doesn’t take up that much processing power, the Krisp addition in some Android devices might see more consumption. Although, with the increase in work from home and remote work practices, the noise suppression element has become a necessity in a lot of situations.

While playing multiplayer games with other people, background noise becomes an increasingly embarrassing situation. Similarly, if you’re in the middle of a meeting and your child runs in shouting or with a bang, it can be suppressed with this new tech, in the future when other companies and platforms start adopting it.

The dog’s barking or the child’s crying, every environment at home can be tuned out as per the makers of Discord. Krisp is a technology that makes the process of communicating way easier for people all around; we can have a higher level of comfort while in such situations. And that’s what technology companies are working towards, making our lives as comfortable as possible, as new cases keep on arising.

The company is worth $3.5 billion and recently raised another $100 million. As they now plan to go into other spaces except tech and games.
