Differences between the reservation and the registration of a domain name

by TM Maria Be a king in your own kingdom

To talk about the difference between reservation of domain or registration of a domain should be defined first of the type of domain (say the extension) that we are talking about and their situation (if available for sale or not yet available).

So for example, if the domain is not yet available or is in a period of sunrise (let's say it would be the period before that domain goes public), the domain can only be reserved in a first place, after which the domain registration becomes definitive (sometimes this may not happen). In sunrise periods it is quite normal for registries or registrars to charge an amount for the reservation of the domain.

This reservation of domains can be at different levels, that is, it could be at the registrar agent level. (In this case, if we are very interested in that domain the logic would be to make several reservations in so many authorised registrar agents.)

Another level would be in the case of registration (say the tld) with what would not be necessary to make so many domain reservations since simply reserving before the registry or before an authorised registrar is sufficient.

You can also speak of reservation of domain in the case that a domain has expired and the owner has a series of days of "reservation of domain", that is, has several days to make the payment and thereby renew the domain. The amount of these days of reservation of domains varies greatly depending mainly on the tld of the domain (the ending say). For example, the reservation of the domain.ae before a renewal does not reach a month of time, and on the other hand in a domain.com the reservation process can be of several months duration.

I thought that a reservation of domain was enough

With this, we must be cautious because there are clients who for different reasons think that there is plenty of time to renew the domain, and sometimes they encounter the unpleasant inconvenience that the domain no longer belongs to and belongs to another person.

On the other hand domain registration is an accomplished fact, that is to say, that in most of the time (there are a few exceptions) once the registration is made, that domain belongs to you for the period in which you purchased that domain.

One of the most significant misunderstandings that occur with reservations and registration of domains is that terms are confused. Sometimes, customers who pay a reservation of domain think that they have already acquired the domain name when they simply have not completed any purchase yet.
