Determining The “STEEL STRENGTH” Of A Gun Safe by It’s Steel Gauge

CONSTRUCTION

Steel gauge sizes can run from 10 to 14. However, it is important not to just go by the gauge of steel. Charts show that 14 gauge of steel will provide a steel thickness of 0.075, while a 1/4” steel plate will provide a steel thickness of 0.250. When a sheet of steel is doubled it becomes that that much stronger, which is what we do at Champion Safe Company. A single, thick sheet of steel is bent, and the top and bottom welded, in the construction of our safes. This is contrary to many other safes which are simply constructed with metal pieces and polyester resin filler. 

The door is especially important in order to prevent break-ins. Our safe doors, from the smallest to the largest, are constructed of 2 or more layers of are solid steel and feature four-way active bolts, which makes a break-in impossible. In addition, the sheer weight of our safes makes it impossible for them to be easily transported in case of a theft.
