Types of 3D scanners

Laser Oriented 3D Technology

Most advanced 3D scanners use LASER to accurately measure the physical dimensions of an object. The depth of the object is calculated by shooting and receiving a laser from the source to the target. By further receiving the laser the accurate measurements of the parameters are calculated. 

Light Projection 3D Scanners

These scanners can shoot a structured beam of Blue and White towards the object. The deflected light due to the object’s shape creates a vacancy in the light structure. By further studying the incoming structure of light, the 3D scanner compiles the result and outputs a 3D image.


Photogrammetry 3D Scanner

It is the most common and wildly used 3D scanning process by personal users. It is a simple process of combining a lot of raw images of an object. 


In this process, many photos of the subject are taken by high-resolution cameras from different angles.  The photos are then processed to compiled using computer software to get the digitalized 3D version of the object. 


The focal length, depth, and size of the images are used to arrange them linearly together. For this, a quality camera with high DPI and resolution should be used.


Where To Buy a 3D Scanner

Portable projection-based 3D scanners can be bought from physical shops or verified online marketplaces. Some models of laser-oriented 3D scanners can also be bought from global or local online marketplaces. 


Industrial grade 3D scanners are very expensive and not available for purchase by regular buyers. 3D scanner production-based companies sell them to only licensed heavy industries or companies. These cannot be bought at once. Companies need to preorder for it which needs required customizations by the buyers. 


Photogrammetry-based 3d scanning requires any casual cameras or even smartphones. Some paid image compiling software turns the raw images into a virtual 3D image.
