Dental Crowns – An Effective Restoration Process
by Seller Ben BuisnessDental crowns are needed to protect the
teeth from breaking. Dental crowns are also a type of Cosmetic Dentistry. If
you have had a Root Treatment or a large filling is present then a Crown is needed
to protect the tooth and make it last as long as possible.
The Cosmetic Dentist prepares and fits your
Dental Crown. They are laboratory made and are extremely strong. They can be
made from Porcelain bonded to metal, Metal Alloy or all Porcelain. They can
also be made from Gold although nowadays the latter is preferred as they tend
to look better in your mouth.
As with all Dental Treatments there are
some potential complications. But majority can be avoided if the Dental Crown
is made with care and attention. Care and attention are guaranteed at our
dental practice.
Potential complications that can occur are:
The Dental Crown can be too high causing
pain when biting and eating. This can be avoided during the fitting stage of
the crown. A special marking paper is used. We ask you to bite on this paper
and grind your teeth together. This will mark all the high spots that can be
adjusted by the Dentist.
The Dental Crown doesn't fit correctly.
Care during the preparation and impression stage would avoid this. Plaque and
food debris can accumulate in the areas where the crown doesn't fit leading to
decay.
Decay is not entirely removed before
placing the Zirconium Porcelain
Crowns. Problems can arise in the future. The Dental Crown would need
to be removed but because it has been cemented in place it can only be drilled
off. Once the decay has been thoroughly removed a new Crown is needed.
A Dental Crown needs a stable tooth to be
cemented onto. After Root Canal Treatment for Dental Bridge Problems a
post is needed to help hold the crown in place. If the post is not long enough
after a while the crown can become loose and fall off. It is not always
possible to re-cement these post and crowns back on in which case new post and
Dental Crowns are needed.
These potential complications are the same
for Porcelain Bonded Crown. Dental Bridges are used to replace missing
teeth. They are usually cemented to teeth either side of the gap. Dental
Bridges are laboratory made and are also made from Porcelain bonded to metal,
Metal Alloy or all Porcelain.
Some of the Advantages of implants are:
·
An ideal alternative to conventional
mercury amalgam and composite resin fillings when much enamel has been lost.
·
More conservative than crowns because less
tooth structure is removed in the preparation process.
·
Strengthen teeth since they are bonded into
place, unlike mercury amalgam fillings.
·
Porcelain onlays made entirely of porcelain
are very aesthetic.
·
Highly durable and clinically proven to
last many years.
·
Cosmetically pleasing since they are tooth
colored.
·
They look extremely natural.
