desserts available and one can enjoy them anytime of the day. Most of the
Indians do have a fancy for sweets and they do indulge in a bite then and now.
Indian desserts mostly comprise of milk, khoya and sugar but yes one can mix
some other ingredients like dry fruits and other flavours as an addition to the
sweets.
Indians do
have a huge variety of sweets but here are some special and popular ones which
one can never give miss. Here are some most loved Indian desserts to try.
Gulab Jamun
This one is
a most popular sweet across India. It is the one which is made from khoya and
they are fried golden. These dumplings are dipped well in saffron and sugar
syrup until it gets mixed well. It is a great idea to serve them hot along with
a dollop of cold yogurt and it is one of the most festive friendly sweet in
India.
Gajar Ka Halwa
This is a
particular winter favourite sweet in India. You can warm your winter evenings
and nights with a hot bowl of gajar ka halwa and it is delicious. This one is
made from grated carrot, cashew nuts and condensed milk. The recipe originally
belongs to Pakistan but is also very famous in northern part of India.
Sandesh
This one is
a super hit recipe from Bengal. This one is a proper dessert which melts in the
mouth and it is mainly made from cottage cheese, sugar, cardamom and saffron.
One can also use sugar free instead of sugar if they are fat and calorie
conscious. Sandesh though very much popular in Bengal has made its mark in
other parts of the country as well.
Modak
Though this
one is dedicated as a Prasad or an offering to Lord Ganesha it is also a
favourite dessert item of many. These are the sweet dumplings made from flour
and these are mostly stuffed with nutmeg, coconut, jaggery and saffron. This
one is made in heaps during the time of Ganesh Chaturthi but are also available
during the rest of the year.
Aam
Shrikhand
This is a
very popular dessert item which has its origin in Gujarat. It is mainly made
from hung curd or some mildly sweetened yogurts. They are covered with ripe
mango cubes and some mango flavours. Though this one is mostly available during
summers due to the availability of mangoes but one can also get them in winters
as well.
Payasam
This is the
south Indian version of kheer and it is locally known as payasam. This one is
actually a rice pudding made from milk and cream and one can add raisins and
cashews in it.
Kaju ki Barfi
This one is
a very popular sweet in India and it is mainly made from cashew nuts, milk and
silver varq. One can make them in special occasions.
