If you’re planning to beat the heat this summer, there is nothing more effective than other options. With summers are getting hotter and hotter with every passing year, choosing the right AC is very important which will ensure proper cooling without burning a hole in your pocket. But in order to make the right choice, the most important thing is to have proper understanding of all factors that contribute to a successful buy.

While buying a 5 star split AC in India, the first thing that captures the attention of most of the buyers is the yellow stars displaying on the product. Some might thing that they’re linked with the product quality while others thinks they may attribute to tonnage. However, the story is entirely different. So, let’s get to know more about these stars in the further part of this post.

The exact truth is that these star ratings are developed to assist buyers compare the energy efficiency of various air conditioner models that are meant to operate similarly. For a majority of products, the standard star rating system is minimum 1 star and maximum 5. It is the rating that actually helps buyers in saving their electricity bills. Due to rising energy costs, users today look to save on energy while buying electrical appliances.

It means that a 5 star split AC would be more energy efficient than a 1 or 2-star air conditioner.

The benefits of star energy ratings are:

1) Lower energy cost: The energy star appliance is meant to cut short the home appliance energy usage and costs by 10-50%.

2) Environment friendly: The energy star appliance can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and requirement on plummeting fossil fuel resources.

3) More convenience: These appliances are highly convenient means that if you invest in energy star rated AC that will help you in shortening your bills and improved cooling performance.

What is EER and how it is calculated?

EER of AC=Cooling capacity (W)/Power consumption (W)

EER of 1TR (Ton of Refrigeration) = 3514 W Capacity consuming 1500W= 3514/1500=2.34

EER is given by W/W and EER by BTU/hr/W. Thus, EER in BTU/hr/W=3.41*EER in W/W.

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) revise the star rating of AC at various times. Therefore, a 5 star AC may become a 3 star AC next year after rating revision.

Air conditioners are rated from 1-5 star, the more the star, more efficient is the unit. It is often recommended that for long term, you should buy a 5 star rated AC as it uses lesser energy compared to other AC’s.
