While it is not easy at all dealing with children suffering from ADHD, it can become difficult to manage or sustain your marriage as well while doing so. There have been many instances of marriage going haywires due to stress of raising ADHD or children with dyslexia under within eight years of their birth.  There have been many cases of parents of children getting divorced due to the straining relationship. Here are a few tips on how you can together work towards managing these challenges and reducing your own stress levels as well.

Engaging – One of the most common symptoms of ADHD is boredom. These kids get bored quite soon. You need to instruct them repeatedly to get stuff done. This can be quite taxing but finding ways to engage your child around his/ her favorite activities can relieve the stress out. Further spend some time around 10-15 minutes may be for yourself and relax.

Simplify – Even having too many activities lined up for the child can get create difficulties for the child. So making suitable adjustment that just relaxes the child a bit is better.

Stay organized – If you organize your house properly, the child will know that there is a place for everything and he or she will learn to be organized as well. So, before preaching your child to organize herself or himself stay organized yourself.

Be Clear with expectations – To make kids with ADHD behave, certain set of rules have to be created for them and you need to ensure that they follow them. If you have a system that is full of consequences and rewards, it might just work for them because they are known to respond well to the same. Explain every rule and along with the pros of following and cons of disobeying to them as well. Though, keep in mind that the reward need not be gifts or food but the activities or your kids choice and praise as well as privileges. Timeouts work well and so do removal of privileges in order to curb the behavior of the child.

Encourage Physical Activity – Kids with ADHD are very good around physical activities so sports can work well with channelizing their energy in the right direction. Sports like yoga or martial arts, football or hockey, tennis or badminton can work really well.

Cuddle with your kid – Spending 10 -15 minutes daily hugging and cuddling with your child can help him or her feel loved and secure, ultimately helping him or her calm down.

Green time –  It is known from research that children that spending times around the trees in the park full of lush green grass show reduction in symptoms of ADHD as compared to them playing on concrete grounds. So, its advisable to spend quality time with your child in parks.

Well, other than that taking time out to be together for a walk, meditation or just a talk does really help to manage the stress of bearing a child with ADHD.
