One of the downsides to visiting a fabulous city like London is that it’s really hard to leave once you’ve arrived.  That said, there are plenty of great day trips which it is possible to take from the city.  You could hire a car or make use of the many different train services which run from Central London stations such as Paddington and St Pancras.  If that sounds like your kind of thing then check out these top day trips from London:-

Oxford

A train journey to Oxford takes around an hour from London Paddington and as home to one of the world’s most famous universities it’s a wonderful place to take the time to visit.  Alongside the well known university you can also find stunning architecture, cobbled streets, plenty of culture, a covered market and a beautiful botanical garden.  If you are staying in a hotel near Paddington Station then you should definitely consider a day trip to this fascinating city.

Brighton

Just one and half hours could see you in one of the most unique and diverse cities in the whole of the UKBrighton is quite unlike anywhere else you might have visited and if you fancy a trip to a British seaside with a twist then this is surely the place for you.  There is the traditional pier and stretches of beach for those who want to the joy of the seaside along with the interesting independent stores and the buzzing bars and restaurants with their own fabulous atmosphere.

Henley on Thames

The area of Henley became famous for the annual rowing regatta which takes place here but it’s also a very picturesque place to escape to for the day.  It takes just over an hour from London which is very handy if you are staying at the Park Grand London Paddington and there are plenty of little streets, independent stores and, of course, the waterfront to be discovered.

The Cotswolds

A little bit further afield lies The Cotswolds, a collection of idyllic villages which sit across 6 counties in the UK but predominantly Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire.  It takes around 2 hours to reach Moreton-in-Marsh which is one of the major stations and which will allow you easy access to the areas which make up The Cotswolds.  If you like chocolate-box cottages, rolling hills and stunning countryside then this is the perfect place to head for a day trip from London.

Bath

An hour and a half from London you will find Bath; which takes its name from the Roman Baths which still remain here.  It is an incredibly picturesque city with light coloured stone featuring in almost all the architecture.  The Royal Crescent is particularly breathtaking but you will also find a multitude of stores and restaurants worth visiting here as well as the Jane Austen Centre, a number of museums and even some working Roman thermal baths which is a very special experience to have in such a well known British city.
