Customizing Your New Rental and Making It Your Own

by Emma L. Business consultant

Moving into a place that’s not your own and having to pay monthly rent is never easy, but it’s the only options for lots of people around the world. They can’t afford to purchase their own houses or apartments, which is why they have to find a rental and try to make it their own as much as possible. This is easier said than done, but if you have a few useful ideas and know what your goals are, you can customize your rental in just a couple of days. Here are a few ideas that might help you do that.

Your favorite colors

This is probably the easiest and most effective way to turn your great new house for rent into a home you’re going to enjoy and love every day of the week. Applying a new coat of paint on the walls is something people generally don’t mind doing because it’s a way to make their new rental more visually appealing and attractive, which is something we all love.

While your landlords probably preferred neutral colors and different shades of gray and beige, you can do whatever you want and pick whichever color suits you the most. Explore various options until you’ve found the one that suits you and your family, and then spend a couple of days repainting your new rental. Once that’s done, it will start to look more like a home, so investing time and energy into this process certainly goes a long way.

Your favorite décor

This is another easy trick most tenants opt for when moving into a new rental because their own décor is always better than settling for whatever they’ve found in the rental. This means bringing in your own travel souvenirs, family photos, fridge magnets and other things that will help you bring in a dose of charm and elegance into your rental.

Finally, don’t be afraid to hang a few motivational posters or paintings all over the walls, as these are an effective way to cover huge areas of your walls. Decorating your rental on your own is simply a must, and while listening to designers and interior decorators is always a good idea, sticking to your own principles is a better alternative you might want to opt for.

Your own furniture

Sometimes, you can find a fully-furnished rental that already has everything you need and requires no additional pieces of furniture. This is great because you’ll be able to save a considerable amount of money, but it’s not as great as you may think at first. Perhaps this furniture is old, impractical, unattractive or just not in accordance with your own style – what should you do then?

Well, bringing in your own furniture is always a good idea. You may already own a few pieces you’ve used before or can purchase something that will fit your new rental perfectly. You don’t have to do all that at once, though, but start small and focus on the most important pieces first. First, provide your family with enough seating options in the living room by getting one of those huge sofas or sectionals from King Living, and make sure you all have a proper bed to sleep in at night, and you can continue furnishing your rental later.

Your kitchen features

Even if you’re not the greatest cook in the world, you surely appreciate the value of a kitchen that’s properly designed and furnished. After all, this is the space where you bond with your family and prepare tasty meals together, which is why it needs to be spiced up and taken care of.

More importantly, if you invest some time into introducing a few of your favorite kitchen features – from a magnetic knife strip to your favorite pots and pans – you can feel closer to this space and turn it into an area you can enjoy all day long. This will also help you bond with your new rental and make it truly yours.

Your bedroom

This is probably the most important part of every home, and when you’re moving into a new rental, making sure your bedroom is just perfect is crucial. Bringing in your old bed, taking care of your closet space, getting some new beddings, and installing a new TV are just some of the ways to personalize your rental bedroom.

You can also introduce some changes and make this space better than before. Cover the floors with new rugs, get a new chandelier, invest in new blinds and get some more storage space. These quick fixes will make your bedroom stand out and give you all the tranquility and peacefulness you deserve.

Customizing a new rental can take some time, but adding changes and personalizing it will ultimately make your life a lot better, and you’ll transition into this new living space more easily than you could’ve imagined.
