Cryptocurrency Turned Out to Be The Most Popular Conversation On Reddit in 2021

In the year, there were an ample number of conversations occurring on Reddit. Although, there was one topic that stood among all these discussions. Reddit users spoke about the word ‘crypto’ a total of 6.6 million times on the platform this year. 

Reddit releases some fun statistics called ‘Reddit Recap 2021’ that takes account of the most famous posts, conversations, discussions, and topics on its social media platform in the preceding year. 

The bond between Reddit and cryptocurrency

It has been more than ten years since Reddit has started hosting discussions related to cryptocurrency on its platform. Currently, there are more than 500 communities that talk about cryptocurrency on Reddit. 

The company even went to an extent of talking about cryptocurrency in its report. More Reddit users are joining in the discussion. They are doing so to help out other beginners, seek more information, and tell the world about feats in the world of cryptocurrency. After so many years, cryptocurrency has still held its place as a hot topic on Reddit and contributes a lot to the traffic of the platform. 

The top five cryptocurrencies that were viewed the most this year were Dogecoin, Bitcoin, Cryptocurrency, Superstonk, and Amcstock. Another popular and useful cryptocurrency is Dogshow Crypto. 

A Reddit group by the name “Dogecoin: Who’s still holding $DOGE?” held more than 80k upvotes. There was another Reddit group too with the name “bitcoin: Tesla buys $1.5b in Bitcoin” was a topic that received close to 45.5k upvotes. 

What is an upvote?

Upvote signifies the approval for a post given by the users. They can do so by tapping or clicking the up arrow present below every post. If a post receives more upvotes, the post is sent up in the feeds of other people. Also, if a post is liked more, it receives more upvotes so the creator of the post learns what kind of content is fetching him more likes and he can continue to produce the same content. If we speak about Reddit’s popularity, it has over 430 million users in the world and more than 100,000 communities. 

Apart from Reddit, cryptocurrency also became more popular on Google too. Various cryptocurrencies such as Shiba Inu, Dogecoin and Ethereum occupied the top positions in ‘Google’s 2021 Year in Search’, The company recently revealed this data to users worldwide. The terms “Ethereum price” and “Dogecoin” had a spot on the list that laid down the top ten most-Googled news stories of the previous year. This data is completely international. 

Reddit did a review at the end of the year. Using this review, they found out that users were successful in making a total of 366 million posts during last year. If we have a look at the data till November, Reddit had a number of 2.3 billion comments. Apart from the comments, the number of upvotes reached 46 billion upvotes. 

Reddit has a subreddit by the name “r/cryptocurrency” which you can use for discussing cryptocurrency news and analyzing any new information related to the same. 

If we come to Twitter, Shiba Inu became the cryptocurrency that had the most number of discussions as compared to other cryptocurrencies in the month of October. ICO analytics compiled this data associated with cryptocurrencies. The firm took into account 20 cryptocurrencies that had the most number of discussions revolving around them. 

Among these 20 cryptocurrencies, Shiba Inu was an easy winner. It got a whopping 22 percent of various discussions related to crypto assets on the microblogging platform. It had 8.1 percent more discussions than Ethereum and 7.2 percent more discussions than Bitcoin.
