by Liz Seyi Digital marketing manager

You may be comparing Apartments For Sale In Croydon like those that make up the ISLAND development due to the gleaming 21st-century modernity and sophistication that they represent, but there’s also no denying the astounding richness of the locality’s history. Well, coming up next month is an all-too-rare opportunity for you to get up close and personal with some of that history.

Open House London is an event that enables the general public to take a look inside buildings across the capital that may otherwise usually be inaccessible.

On one weekend every September since 1992, Open House London has been granting free entry to some of the capital’s most distinguished architectural landmarks – and Croydon will be well-represented at this year’s event on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd September.

Which Croydon buildings should you check out this year?

As reported by the MyLondon website, this year’s Open House London will allow members of the public to visit no fewer than 14 Croydon buildings for free. These will include the Grade II* listed Airport House at the former Croydon Airport, as well as the Church of St Mary the Blessed Virgin in Addington Village and even Croydon’s last remaining windmill, Shirley Windmill.

Or perhaps you fancy punctuating your search for apartments for sale in Croydon with visits to the likes of Croydon Town Hall, Thornton Heath Library and Croydon Council’s offices at Bernard Weatherill House? It’ll all be possible at this year’s Open House London, with such sites as the WhitgiftAlmshouses in North End and the Stanley Halls in South Norwood also participating.

They’re just a few of the more than 800 properties that are set to open throughout the capital as part of the ever-popular event.

“We have some fantastic architecture here in Croydon”

Councillor Oliver Lewis, cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport at Croydon Council, stated: “We have some fantastic architecture here in Croydon and I’m really pleased residents will be able to see some of it for themselves, free of charge.

“I hope people take up this great opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich history this borough has.”
