On Wednesday, June 8, Maharashtra registered 2,701 fresh COVID-19 cases which are reported to be the highest in almost four months. However, zero fatalities were seen and the active cases rose to a little less than 10,000, highlighted the health department.

With these updates in numbers, Maharashtra's aggregate infection numbers increased to 78,98,815 and the death toll stands at 11,47,866. With this, the active cases are at 9,806. According to reports, the daily detections in the state crossed the 2,000 mark after almost four months.

This surge in the state's numbers is also driven by Mumbai. The city recorded 1,765 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday. While a day ago, on Tuesday, June 7 it had reported 1,242 cases. With Wednesday's numbers, Mumbai's cases are at a 133-day high.

Based on accounts, active cases in the city are at 7,000 which has invariably increased the state's numbers to almost 10,000. Other than this, narratives claim that Mumbai's hospitalization figures are also three times higher over the past week.

It was back on January 26 that Mumbai witnessed 1,858 cases. Moreover, on Wednesday 83 hospitalizations were recorded.

On the other hand, India reported 7,240 new coronavirus cases which is an almost 40 per cent jump for a second straight day. The Union Health Ministry highlighted that the total tally of active cases is now at 32,498.
