So is it also good to live here while you study in Switzerland? What are the costs involved to let you have an equally amazing student life outside of the classroom?

Today we are going to answer the likes of these questions to help students plan their study abroad journey better. Now, this might come off as a deflator but Switzerland can be expensive when it comes to managing your living costs. You can break down your costs of living anywhere in the budget range of EUR 1000 to 1400 per month which will include: housing, food, transportation, tuition, supplies and a few leisure activities. But if you are looking to live in either Geneva or Zurich, then you might have to exceed that range to over EUR 1500 per month as both of these are one of the most expensive cities.

Let us now give you the cost of living structure of major cities of Switzerland :

  • Geneva- EUR 1600-1700 per month

  • Zurich – EUR 1200 - 1700 per month

  • Bern – EUR 1100 per month

  • Basel – EUR 900- 950 per month

Now that you have an idea about the average cost of living in the Swiss cities while you study in Switzerland, how about we also take a look at the accommodation costs and other options?

After the living costs are defined for major cities it is crucial for students to figure out their options of putting up in the city. Some of the accommodation options for international students include Student halls of residences that can cost in the range of EUR 360- 800 per month or Rent and share an apartment (one bedroom) in the range of EUR 650- 800 per month.

Within the cost of living another aspect to consider is the transporation wherein the students go either by foot, a bicycle or the public transport. You can get a monthly pass for around EUR 40-50 and your ticket is valid on almost all major Swiss cities like Zurich, Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne and Neuchâtel be it the trains, tramways, buses or ships.
