Convincing Parents to Let You Study in A Boarding School

by DPS Panipat City Education

One of the most common emotional battles that teens have to face is convincing their parents to let them study in a boarding school. It is also one of the common questions raised in forums and feeds. Here are some tips those adventurous and curious teens can make use of in convincing their parents to study in one of the best boarding schools in India.

The first thing you have to remember is being calm and patient. It may take quite some time for your over protective parents to finally come to a conclusion. You have to maintain your temper throughout the entire discussion to make your parents see that you can face anything in a responsible manner. Fighting never helps. You have to understand their feelings too and give them some time to think upon it. Lend your ears to what they have to say.  After all whatever they do is out of their unconditional love for you. So don’t get angry and proceed to talk after you have done your research on the best residential schools in India.

Here is what you should consider:

  •          Be rational

Weigh the benefits of going to a boarding school or any international school in India. Why would you want to go to a particular boarding school in Delhi or any part of India? What are the extra benefits you get from such a school? How it will help you realize your dreams?  Think about these questions before you actually bring out the matter to your parents.

  •          Listen

Listen to what your parents have to say in not letting you go. Find the real reason and analyze whether it is practical or emotional or concerns money. Sometimes distance matters too. Maybe your parents may get lovesick from missing you. Listening to their concerns will let you address these issues later in an appropriate way. Don’t try to argue with them but think upon when to talk and make use of the best time to tell your counter points in a way that doesn’t hurt them or anger them.

  •          Research

You can’t talk to your parents if you don’t research about the best residential schools in India beforehand.  If distance is a problem, find a boarding school nearby or find a school that lets you go home often. There are schools that offer five-day boarding too. Find out everything you can like about scholarships so that your parents know that you are really into this.

  •          Return

With a good source of information from your research you can go and talk to your parents and give solutions to their issues and tell them what you have found. This will make them have more confidence in you and show them that you know what you are doing.

  •          Resources

Provide your parents with resources where they can investigate about the best boarding schools in India by themselves.

  •          Spend time with your parents

Make sure to let your parents know that you love them too. Spend quality time with them and don’t make them feel unwanted. Show them the positive reasons of boarding schools and not that you want to get away from them. Their world revolves around you and hence it is quite hard for them to let you move on. You can visit nearby boarding schools together and get an idea and make it a special day trip too

Good luck.
