In the global arena, India is emerging as a nation that is keeping its focus on a very crucial sector and that is social welfare. A large extent of the population is still in the rural and tribal arena and thus requires special focus on education and health. A lot more is involved in the scenario and thus welfare projects in rural India are being planned and implemented by the government bodies and NGOs.

Education is the key focus

The projects are mainly planned with the goal of enhancing livelihood opportunities. A major part of this is the education of downtrodden children. The education here is not much like the regular school and curriculum. Special mode of education is implemented among the students with One Teacher School.

The major issues faced

As poverty is a major issue in India, these plans and schemes are planned only after the arrangement of the funds. These schemes thus become an integral part of companies and organisation who willingly donate for the cause. These schemes are planned on a periodic basis. The continuation of such welfare projects in rural India depends upon the availability of donation.

The new mode of education

One teacher school is one such successful welfare projects of rural India. The concept here lies in education walking up to your doors. Still, there are various corners of India, where the light of education has not reached. The project plans to reach those darkest corners and spread the light of knowledge and wisdom. Here children will have the opportunity to have a greater view of the vast world that resides outside their small dwelling.

The beginning of the journey

Late Shri Madan Lal Agarwal gave the idea of this noble concept in 1986. He initiated the idea to transform it into reality. He began with 60 schools in Dhanbad, which got a huge response. Later, it was remodelled with the teachings of Swami Vivekananda to upgrade the education system. Going as per the recent success rate, around 25 lakh children has received education through OTS.

The uniqueness lies in the system how these schools work. There is only one teacher or Acharya, who manages the entire system in a respective area. Many reputed people from several sectors of the country are associated with the cause and with their support; this project has become one of the most successful educational projects in India.
